Eyelid malposition is a frequent cause of eye irritation, redness and tearing. Eyelids may turn out (ectropion) or turn in (entropion) for various reasons including age, trauma, inflammation, facial nerve problems including Bells Palsy, or as a result of prior surgery on the eyelids or face. Successful management of ectropion and entropion requires detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the eyelids and conditions that can affect the eyelid position.
As oculoplastic surgeons, Drs. Garibaldi and Wong are best suited to address ectropion and entropion. They will diagnose the cause of your eyelid problem and develop a treatment plan to address this cause. This will usually include surgical repair performed in a surgical center with the assistance of an anesthesiologist. Repair generally takes an hour to perform and involves the same incisions used for cosmetic eyelid surgery, resulting in a cosmetically pleasing result while addressing your symptoms. Sutures are removed in 1-2 weeks and bruising and swelling improves with time.
