Daniel Garibaldi, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist who joined OCLI after serving as the assistant chief of service and clinical instructor at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In this multifaceted role, he directly supervised the training of Wilmer’s residents, directed an oculoplastics subspecialty clinic and served as assistant director of the Wilmer trauma service. Dr. Garibaldi graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and neuroscience. He then received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he finished first in his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national honor society. He completed his general medical internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park and then an ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Garibaldi remained at Wilmer Eye for a two-year fellowship in oculoplastics, orbital and reconstructive surgery and served as the assistant chief of service.
During his time at Wilmer, Dr. Garibaldi was very active in ophthalmic research. He has published numerous articles and two book chapters and given many academic presentations. His research has been recognized by awards and grants from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Wilmer Eye Institute and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has designed and conducted both prospective clinical trials and experimental research projects. He has served as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed Ophthalmic journals including American Journal of Ophthalmology, Cornea, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, and Ophthalmology. Dr. Garibaldi remains active in medical education, serving on the Program Committee of the prestigious annual Kiawah Eye Meeting and as President-elect of the Nassau Surgical Society.
Dr. Garibaldi is a partner at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island, OCLI, an eye care group consisting of over 30 eye doctors and surgeons representing a broad spectrum of specialties in ophthalmology and optometry, with 11 locations throughout Long Island.
